Some Info about NATHALIE:

Where and when were you born?
I was born in may 1963 in Limoges, France. So this makes me a taurus, ascendant scorpio, for people who desire to know.

What is your profession?
I am a personal trainer when I am out of season preparing contests

Were you involved in sports or fitness prior to bodybuilding and how did you get started with weight training?
I was bearly walking that I started ice skating and ski.Trought my childhood I intensely practice judo too.I started to lift weight very young , when I was 12. Later I did also wrestling and sambo. I started to compete in weight training with olympic lifting, than power lifting, and finaly in 2002 in bodybuilding.

Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body?
No, it is something who cames like this , after I competed in power lifting, and after many people advised me to try, considering my muscles mass.

Can you give me your competition history?
As I have 6 years of competition history at international level in power lifting with IPF, I am going to give you only the results in bodybuilding :
NPC-Heist Texas championships 2002: first in novice, 2nd in master
NPC-John Sherman Classic 2002: first in open, first in master, first overall
IFBB-France national championships 2003: first open, Obtain my proffessional card 2003
IFBB PRO South West Pro Cup 2004: 7th
IFBB PRO Europa Super Show 2005: 10th

Which contest has been your biggest success; which has had the most meaning to you?
I would like to may be answer John Sherman Classic, because grace to my result I was able to go compete at the nationals in France for obtain a professional status. Plus I think that I had this day one of my best condition. But all of my contests were and will be important to me. They will have all the time a meaning of results to a very long preparation and sacrifices. Each of them help me to know me better and better.

Please tell me something about your training routine (ie: how many days per week / training split /cardio, etc.)
Preparing a contest I train 5 to 6 times in a raw, with one day of and start again.I do my cardio between 45 minutes to 120 minutes depending where I am in my preparation.
I like train one big bodypart every 7 days.I change my routine very often, but for exemple this is one that I like :
Shoulders one day, than legs and calves, than chest, than back, than biceps triceps. Sometimes I put biceps and triceps with other groups like back and shoulders for exemple.I will do my abs every 3 or 4 days at the end of my workout.
I do a lot of stretch at the end of each training session.
When I train , I train heavy for me with sets of 7-10 reps.I do a lot of technics like drop set , pyramides, resistance...anythings who make the muscles burn and ask for pity...!

What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much?
I do not have really a noticeable preference. The only thing is that I have to push me sometimes to do biceps...!

Which body part is your best in your opinion?
Well...I try to be symetric...so I let this to my fans to critic me about this!

If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)?
My best lifts for one rep would be (out power lifting period) bench press 245 pounds(110 kg) , squat 392 pounds (177 kg), dead lift 240 pounds(108 kg).
Now, I do not use no more lifts of one rep. Even if I still train heavy for me, it is not so much "power lifting style"....I am more focus on burning, pump with a perfect form.
These are mesurements in inch during contest: Neck 14, arm 15, shoulders 46, chest 42, waist 28, legs 22, calves 15 for a body weight of 129 pounds (58 kg). I am 4f 10 (1m53)...contest or not!!

What do you enjoy about training for competition....what do you enjoy about the 'off season'?
Training for contest offers me a goal to train, gives me a discipline.I like to see in front of the mirror the transformation of a leaner body...reward of preparation and conditioning.Easier to find and wear regular clothes too.
The out of season is good too, because not so strict as diet, and schedule.

Please describe a typical day in the life of Nathalie Abellan.
Very difficult to answer, because things change every day but in contest preparation, one thing stable is going to be repeat :
wake up 4am , take a shower making me presentable .Eat first meal .Go train
Come back , eat again.Than later cardio , and long stretch (30 to 45 minutes).
Time to eat again...
I do what I have to do during the day, eating every 3 hours or less.Sometimes I redo cardio on the evening.
I try to go to bed no later than 8pm.
Out of contest , I keep the same routine, except no cardio...The alarm still will ring at 4am , but I will use more the snooze button!!

Please tell me about what you do when you don’t work out ( hobbies, what do you do to relax?, etc.)
We have 4 indoors cats...this keeps me busy, it involves a lot of home cleaning!
I do also one or twice a month native american drumming circles.I like home decorating and apply fengshui principles.I do also qiqong.I am interested in astrology, energy work.I take a part in certain ways to the protection of the earth. I am interested in naturopathy, aromatherapy, homeopathy, any alternative medecine for human or pets. I do muscle testing and pendulum work.I like, with all these tools work on my personal and spiritual growth.

What do you enjoy most about the bodybuilding/fitness lifestyle?
Keeps me young and very healthy. It allows me to met on my path wonderful persons.I am also able to share my knowledge when people need.

Tell me something interesting about yourself, something people may be surprised to hear.
Interesting...I do not know. But one thing that people will find weird sometimes, is that I do not listen music. The only time I put music on, is during cardio. The rest of the time I enjoy silence.

What are your competition goals or personal future goals?
I am waiting on the calendar 2006 for see what I am going to do.

Please note:

Nathalie does not do sessions or wrestling of any kind. Please don't ask!!
