What kind of activities/sports did you do before you started lifting weights?

How and when did you get involved into lifting weights?
I was 18 years old when I started training in a gym, because my brother worked at this gym as a fitness-trainer.

Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body?
In 2001 I left my home a few hundred kilometres (200 miles) and moved in with my fincé. He works on a professional level as trainer, nutritionist and manager for competitive athletes in different kind of sports. The following 2 years I started to get really serious with bodybuilding and nutrition and lived the sport in all of its aspects. From this time my body changed very fast and during the next year I started to think about competing onstage.

West German Championship in 2003, where I achieved 1st place

The Miss & Mr. Universe in 2004, Madrid/Spain, 4th place (Figure Class under age of 35)

Please describe a typical day in the life of Yvonne Schleip.
My day begins 7.00am in the morning, 9.30am I start working at the advertising agency until 6.00 pm. After word I go to the gym and my training lasts between 2 to 3 hours, 5 days a week, depending on offseason or pre-competition training.

Please tell me something about your daily training routine.
Through out the year I mostly train with heavy weights and basic movements for all muscle groups. In pre-competition I work with special movements and muscle separation depending on actual weak-points and increase my cardio, too.

How often do you train in a week?
5 days a week

What are the main differences when you train for a competition and in off-season?
The main difference in pre-contest training: much more cardio; mostly within the last month before competition 2 times cardio a day for at least 1 hour

If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)?
Bench-press: 180 lbs (4 reps)
Squats: 320 lbs (10 reps)
Leg-press: 925 lbs (10 reps)
Standing barbell curl: 110 lbs (6 reps)

Measurements (offseason):
arms 15 inches
legs 25 inches
calfs 16,5 inches

Body weight offseason: 160 lbs
Body weight competition: 132 lbs

Which bodypart is your best in your opinion?
Legs, calfs, shoulders

What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much?
My favorite exercise is bench-press, I don´t like french-press.
Generally I like to train every muscle group.

Judging in Women’s Bodybuilding has always been criticised in one or the other way. Please tell me your honest thoughts about today’s judging in Women’s Bodybuilding.
I think in women´s bodybuilding today it is very important that a woman bodybuilder still looks like a woman with a special charisma, elegance and femininity, in body-classes and even more important in figure- or fitness-classes. So for this I think the today´s judging is on the right way.

Please tell me about what else you are doing when you don’t work out.
When I have time I love to draw or paint, play with my pets or reading good books.

What are your future plans for 2005/2006?
My plans for 2005/06 are to stay healthy, train hard, improve my body and qualify for the National Team at the German Championships and compete at the Universe contests.

Please note:

Yvonne does not do sessions or wrestling of any kind. Please don't ask!!
