Training
I train each body part once a week in this order:
Monday: Chest – 16-20 sets/30 minute cardio
Tuesday: Shoulders – 12-16 sets/30 minute cardio
Wednesday: Legs – 25-30 sets/no cardio
Thursday: Cardio (boxing or kickboxing – 1 hour)
Friday :Back – 16-20 sets/ 30 minute cardio
Sat./Sunday: Arms – 12 sets each/30 minute cardio

I work out 5-6 days a week, and do cardio every workout except legs. Cardio at the gym is usually an elliptical machine with arm rowing (Life fitness cross trainer) on mod-high level (10-15) for 30 minutes. Occasionally, I will use a recumbent bike or treadmill (walk/run) x 30 minutes. Kickboxing classes are an hour, and are very intense!

Note: My lifting workouts last 30-45 minutes, and I don’t really rest between sets. Most exercises are super or giant sets. And, I always do cardio first. My training is unusual, but well suited for the natural athlete with a busy life outside the gym.

On diet:
I stay within 10 pounds of my contest weight now year-round by following a few simple rules:
1) No slow carbs after 4 pm
2) No more than 1-2 grams fat/serving, except fish.
3) High protein intake.
4) Lots of water to flush the kidneys!

Next Competition:
WNBF Universe June 2005

A little interview with Liza

What kind of activities/sports did you do before you started lifting weights?
Before weightlifting, I was into swimming, step aerobics, head banging, frisbee, rugby, and the pom-pom squad, also ballet and jazz...LOTS of dance.

How and when did you get involved into lifting weights?
I began lifting when I followed a hulky Oklahoma football player boyfriend into the gym...I already had obvious arm muscle development, and I saw "Conan the Barbarian" that year (1980) ...my dream was to play in similar action/adventure pics, you know, swing a sword and ride bareback...still would love to !! I began my first BB competitions in Oklahoma in 1985.

Which contest has been the biggest success for you yet?
My biggest successes to date would be 1993 NPC National Collegiate Overall Champ...and 2004 Musclemania World Overall Champ.

Please describe a typical day in the life of Liza Larence.
Typical day starts with preparing my 8 yr old for school, while getting ready myself...drop him off at 7:30, and head to Starbucks for my Quadruple shot nonfat cappuccino...then sit in the car applying makeup and listening to my favorite rude morning show...relaxing for a bit before I head into the fray. At the hospital, I have a very demanding patient population (chronic pain, trauma, cancer patients, etc...) and it is my job to help make the pain go away...injection therapy, narcotics etc...sometimes my job can be a little sad...needless to say, at the end of the day I am ready to go blow it out in the gym ! My son Conan (yes, Conan :) sometimes comes with me, but my workouts last only about 1 hr 15 min max....I do this 6 times a week, and this involves a lot of cardio...my lifting is not very heavy...all I am doing at this point is maintaining what God and my parents gave me...nice symmetry, hardness, and endurance (for my adventure sports) See californiafitnessreview.com...I wrote an article on training for adventure :)

If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)?
I dont really know my measurements ( swear !) but I am 38-24-36. 6) My biggest lift was a 100 rep leg press with 481 lbs at Kenny Kassel's Women's Extravaganza in the late 80's. My biggest lift was a 100 rep leg press with 481 lbs at Kenny Kassel's Women's Extravaganza in the late 80's.

What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much?
My favorite workout is legs...my least abs...(I NEVER do them ! ..they're just there...I dont use a weight belt)

Which bodypart is your best in your opinion?
My best bodyparts are shoulders, arms, and boobs :)
