Where and when have you been born? Fort Worth, Texas. I lived in Honolulu, Hawaii from age 10 - 18. Where do you live now? Colorado Springs, Colorado What is your profession? I do personalized training and nutrition programs, but I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. What kind of activities/sports did you do before you started lifting weights? Gymnastics, aerobics, eating!!! How and when did you get involved into lifting weights? After I read the book Body for Life. I picked it up in January of 2000 and did my first bodybuilding show in June of 2001. Exactly 100 pounds lost from the first day until contest weigh in! Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body? Back in the 80's I had always admired Corey Everson. I cut out pictures of her and pasted them on my dorm room wall for motivation. I had always struggled with about 30 extra unwanted pounds. Then tragedy struck my life when my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1992. While he was comatose and rehabilitating for a couple of years, I ate and ate. It was the only thing I looked forward to. I ballooned up to 244 pounds by December of 1999. I had always had those pictures of Corey embedded in my mind though. So when I started training in 2000, the thought crossed my mind to do bodybuilding... but I didn't think I could after being so obese. When I got down to 15% bodyfat and attended my first bodybuilding show... that's when I decided I could do it. I signed up for the next contest and the rest is history. Which competition has been your first one and how did you place? My first competition was the NPC Colorado State Bodybuilding Contest in 2001. I took 1st in Women's Novice and 2nd in Women's Open Heavyweight. And which contest has been the biggest success for you yet? I placed 5th at the NPC's Team Universe in NYC in 2001 and 2002. In 2001 it was only my 2nd contest ever. I plan to go back for the overall. ;) Could you please add a history of all contests that you have entered so far? NPC Colorado State Championships Overall Women's Champion 2003 2nd place open heavyweight 2001 & 2002 1st place overall masters 2002 1st place novice 2001 NPC Team Universe 5th Place open heavyweight 2001 & 2002 Pam - 2002 NPC Southern Colorado & Armed Forces Natural Bodybuilding 1st Place Masters 1st Place Overall Please describe a typical day in the life of Pam Brown. Wake up at 4:30 am, workout, get 5 year old daughter ready for school, sit down at the computer to answer e-mails, design new training and nutrition plans for clients, talk to clients over the phone, meet client for posing practice, write on my book or plan next video, etc... Of course add to that eating every three hours. ;) Since my husband is disabled, I have to do most household chores so I stay very busy. Please tell me something about your daily training routine. I switch things up often. I like to make sure to hit each muscle group at least once per week. I will do my two weakest muscle groups twice in one week. I generally like to stay within 8-12 reps and do approximately 4 sets for each exercise. I do slow negatives and burst up on the concentric movement. How often do you train in a week? 6 days per week. What are the main differences when you train for a competition and in off-season? The main difference is I will do more cardio when I am training for competition. Double cardio sessions are common for me. If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)? Best lifts... 900 pounds on the leg press for 2 reps (not including carraige weight), 185 pounds on the bench press for 2 reps. Quads 25", Waist 26", Bicep 15" Which bodypart is your best in your opinion? My quads. What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much? I love leg press (if you couldn't guess) Please tell me about what else you are doing when you don’t work out (profession, hobbies, etc.) I love to do motivational seminars and tell my story. If I can do this... anyone can!! What are your future plans for 2003/2004? We are promoting the NPC Southern Colorado Bodybuilding and Figure competition here in Colorado Springs on April 17, 2004. I'll be competing in the NPC Team Universe in August of 2004. Hopefully I will have some guest posing appearances as well. What magazines/ TV have you been in? Energy Magazine for Women, Muscle Media (these articles focused on my story), Discovery Health "I Lost It" program, EAS Training video, Body For Life Video. |
