Where and when were you born? 18 July - Portugal


What is your profession? Attorney


Were you involved in sports or fitness prior to bodybuilding and how did you get started with weight training? I have always been active and was a ballerina for 15 years. When I stopped ballet, I began to spend more time in the gym, mainly doing loads of aerobics. I eventually started lifting weights, and have now been lifting for the past 5 years.


Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body? I decided to enter my first fitness competition in 2002 when I saw the competition advertised in a local fitness magazine.

Please tell me something about your training routine (ie: how many days per week / training split /cardio, etc.) I train instinctively and at times I train every day of the week. Generally, I lift weights 5 – 6 times a week, training each body part twice a week. I vary my training intensity from lifting very heavy and very light for each body part. When I lift light, I do more repetitions and train more for the pump.


What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much?  
I love training my legs and my favourite exercises are squats and leg presses. I hate training abs and just rely on my diet to keep them visible.


Which body part is your best in your opinion?
My legs.


If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)?
My most impressive lift is 480kgs for leg press.


What do you enjoy about training for competition....what do you enjoy about the 'off season'?
I don’t really enjoy the process of preparing for a show as I am not able to train intensely as the dieting makes me progressively weaker. The dieting also gets to me in that I start to have all these weird and wonderful cravings fro all sorts of foods. I do however enjoy standing on stage and strutting my stuff.


Please describe a typical day in the life of Nicolette Campbell.
Wake up at 4am and go to the gym where I usually do an hour of cardio. I often alternate this with weight training. After gym it’s off to work until about 5pm. After work it’s back to the gym where I train for an hour or two. After that it’s home to eat and prepare my meals for the next day.


Please tell me about what you do when you don’t work out (hobbies, what do you do to relax?, etc.)
I read, read, and read. I enjoy reading anything from fictional to biographies, magazines, and comics. I love dancing and clubbing but find I don’t get to go out as much as I would like.


What do you enjoy most about the bodybuilding/fitness lifestyle?
I love the bodybuilding and fitness lifestyle as it embodies the quest to constantly evolve into something physically better. Such a quest challenges not only the body, but is largely dependant on the mind and this latter aspect is even more appealing than viewing the physical transformation in isolation.


What are your competition goals or personal future goals?
Like most people in this sport, I aspire to turn pro be it in figure or bodybuilding (I presently compete in both categories)
