IT Professional - database Were you involved in sports or fitness prior to bodybuilding and how did you get started with weight training? I was inspired by Rachel McLeish back in the 80’s when I saw a poster of her in a gym. I started training back then just to get fit but found it very frustrating, the sport was still in its infancy in Australia and not very accepted. Trained off and on over the years but not very seriously. Entered a few small comps but gave it away for quiet some years. Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body? When I finally made the commitment to training as a bodybuilder I set a goal of competing within 18months. Have trained off and on for the past 10 years and have just returned to serious training in the last 9 months after a 12-18 month break. Can you give me your competition history? Victorian state 1st place 2 years running Victorian state 2nd place - twice Southern States 1st place 4th place Nationals Please tell me something about your training routine (ie: how many days per week / training split /cardio, etc.) Currently train 4 days per week Mon Chest / biceps. Also quads – squats only light high reps Tues Shoulders / Triceps Wed Back / Hamstrings Thurs Quads Heavy / Calves I also jog 4-5 k 3 times a week – cardio to keep control of my bodyfat What is your favourite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much? Love training chest!! Dumbbell bench press. Have a love hate relationship with squats. Love the thought of doing heavy squats, Hate doing them, Love the feeling after a heavy leg session. Which body part is your best in your opinion? Tough question…. Chest (and shoulders and biceps….) You tell me….. In the off season: Just love lifting heavy and getting bigger and increasing my lifts. Eating!!!!!!!! Competition: Love the look of being ripped and rock hard – just hate dieting!! Please describe a typical day in the life of Vicki O’Brien. Up at 5:45 am Off to work 7am Breakfast - porridge & eggwhites 10am mid morning snack fruit/ muffins 12pm 4k jog around the gardens near work 1pm Lunch….. 3pm afternoon snack – fruit, chocolate… yummm 5:30 train in the gym for around 1 to 1&1/2 hours 7:30 dinner 8:30 relax (with coffee & good chocolate….) 10:30 bed and then it starts all over again…. He he Please tell me about what you do when you don’t work out ( hobbies, what do you do to relax?, etc.) I am a member of the local Adult horse riding club and go riding every 2nd weekend – more often if I can get the time. Like to relax reading a book at night or lying in the sun during summer. What do you enjoy most about the bodybuilding/fitness lifestyle? The best thing is feeling great, looking great, getting pumped and being noticed. I love that people look at my muscles! Tell me something interesting about yourself, something people may be surprised to hear. I am bit of a coffee connoisseur and drink a lot of coffee (latte’s) during the day. Going to learn to swim this year – have a fear of water that I WILL conquer! I am terribly addicted to good chocolate – hence the need for all the cardio. What are your competition goals or personal future goals? Not planning to compete in any bodybuilding shows at this time but looking into doing some powerlifting contests later this year 2006 Challenge: to be able to do one-arm chin-up!
