I am a 32 year old adapted physical education teacher from Broussard, LA. In 1995, I had extensive knee surgery. The doctors said that I would never be physically active again. Because I would not accept that prognosis, I began lifting weights to make my leg strong again. Two years later, a rock climbing gym opened in Lafayette, LA. I tried it and found another passion in my life. In order to excel in the sport, I began to lift weights seriously.
Over the next few years, my physique blossomed. Many people who saw me working out in the gym told me that I should get involved in bodybuilding, because I was a "natural". I was always flattered by their comments but never took the idea seriously.
In the summer of 2000, I attended my first bodybuilding championships. I was hooked. Always loving a challenge, I decided to compete in a bodybuilding competition. A husband and wife team of former bodybuilders who owned nutrition stores in the area offered to train me. I worked out every morning at 4:00 before going to work. My trainers met with me during the year and gave me very valuable instruction and information.
This has been the most difficult AND the most rewarding year of my life. I competed in my very first bodybuilding championship June 23, 2001 in New Orleans, LA. I won the lightweight women's open and the overall Women's Open Championship. Also I just have won the Women's Open Lightweight at the NPC Louisiana Bodybuilding Championship on July 14th.
Most recently I have won the Lightweight Division and the Overall Championship at the Musclemania in New Orleans!
